Collapsing Bridges Since 2006…

Montrealing

And so here’s another one!

The 40 Ouest was closed for many hours today after concrete fallen from the overpass above it crushed an SUV. Thankfully, nobody got hurt this time. You would think that after many of the incidents since 2006, thorough inspections would be done and steps would be taken in securing every one of our bridges.

You can read all about it in the news http://globalnews.ca/news/1078851/highway-40-closed-at-hymus-due-to-debris/ but what I want to know is how did they reopen the overpass and the 40 O without determining the cause…

“Investigators from provincial transport department spent most of the afternoon working to determine whether the debris that fell near the overpass at Henri-Bourassa Boulevard was from a vehicle travelling over the highway or a section of the overpass itself. “

“Benoit Richard, another spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec who was on-site at the incident, told Global News at around 1:20 p.m. that from what he understood, the debris may have been a piece of the overpass.”

“It was not structural,” said Transports Québec spokeswoman Caroline Larose. “It did not come from underneath the infrastructure. It’s definitely safe,” she said. “Larose referred to the fallen concrete as “cosmetic concrete” that might have come loose as a result of weather conditions.” (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/highway-40-reopens-after-concrete-falls-on-car-from-overpass-1.2494750)

Mmmm… so it’s ok??
